Ever Wanted to Work a Bike Race?

If you’ve ever thought about how much fun it would be to work a bike race, here is your opportunity.  Below is an e-mail I sent to my database of race volunteers, but this event is bigger than even my usual crew can handle.  You can find some of the “Job Descriptions” on the Volunteer (now called Employment) page of this website.  If you are able to help at this event, please contact me, BigDave, at bigbikerdave@gmail.com.

OK All, my next big event is the Midwest Regional Masters Championship to be held Saturday, July 23rd in Cleves and North Bend, OH and Sunday, July 24th in Aurora, IN.  Here is the RACE FLYER if you want to read along.  I am going to need a small army of people to make this happen, so please be greedy with the number of positions and time slots you want.  This event will be bringing in riders from the 12-state Region defined by USA Cycling.  I already have one rider registered for all 3 races coming all the way from South Dakota.  My target attendance for this event is 200-250 riders per stage, or 600-750 for the entire weekend.  Here is what I need: More >

Volunteers Needed for Spring Race Series

As the first race of the Spring Series is just under two months away, I need to start nailing down some of the volunteers.  I am putting on 5 of the 8 races in the Series, so I have a lot of holes to fill.

The compensation that I am willing to offer for each position is as follows:

Lead Vehicle:  $30 for gas used during the race.
Course Marshal:  Free race registration for an immediate family member.

Here are the dates of my races:

Sunday, March 28, 2010 – Germantown, OH
Saturday, April 3, 2010 (Easter Weekend) – Mitchell Memorial: Cincinnati, OH
Sunday, May 2, 2010 – Georgetown, OH
Sunday, May 16, 2010 – Bond Rd: Harrison, OH
Sunday, May 23, 2010 – SERIES FINALE: St Leon, IN

All races start at noon, and the last racers will be done between 2:30 and 3:00.

I will need 5 Lead Vehicles for each race.  You will use your own vehicle for this job.

The number of Course Marshals varies from race to race depending on the number of turns and intersections on the course.  There will be two Course Marshals at each designated location.  Here is the TOTAL number of Course Marshals I need for each race:

Germantown – 14
Mitchell – 8
Georgetown – 14
Bond Rd – 6
St Leon – 10

If you want to work any of these positions and dates, please let me know so that I can start filling in the schedule.  If you know of anyone who may also be interested in helping, feel free to send them to BigDaveSports.com

Thanks to all of you for your help and consideration in helping with these races.  Also consider helping with the other races in the series:

April 11 – Hueston Woods
April 18 – Vandervort’s Corner
April 25 – Spring Valley
