Cyclocross, CX and Some Cross Racing

As the “normal” cyclocross season winds down, plans are popping up for some extra-curricular  CX events over the next couple of months and next year.

First up is a New Year’s Eve race put on by the Queen City Wheels Lionhearts Junior Racing Team as a fundraiser to help cover some of the travel expenses for sending a handful of team members to the CX National Championships in Bend, OR.  The proposed name for this event is “The Pies and Recycled Caution Tape” race.  The exact location and schedule of races has not yet been announced yet, but there could be some fun and different categories to choose from.

Next up is the Winter Crossing Weekend being planned for the weekend of January 29th & 30th on the Newport Flood Wall.  This event is being put together by the Reser/Fusion Racing Team and Team Hungry Racing with support from BigDaveSports.  You can categories to be fairly simple and the day to possibly start with a Polar Bear Ride on the course.

The last thing in the works, which may be the biggest, is the talks of putting on a Midwest Regional CX Championship which will have a strong emphasis on the juniors.  There is a strong push for this from BigDaveSports and the QCW Lionhearts out of Cincinnati as well as the Red Zone Cycling Team and 2WheelSports out of Louisville.  With the strength of juniors programs in our area and continued growth in these programs, this will be very important in the experience and planning for the National CX Championship which will be in Madison, WI next year.  Since Nationals will be moving to the first weekend of January next year, it only makes since to put the Regional Championship on the vacated weekend in December that used to host Nationals.
