The 2010 Ohio Spring Race Series opens with a road race full of character. From its narrow country farm roads to gravel and dirt roads, the only thing normal about the Germantown Road Race course is the mild climb up to the finish.

The race route is available on MapMyRide. In the event part of this course is in too bad of shape to safely hold a race, we will use this route from MapMyRide.

does any part of the race go over dirt or gravel roads?

Yes, Anthony Rd is a dirt/gravel road that follows the creek. You will be on this road for about a mile.

How are the roads, any reason not to bring some Zipp tubulars?

I drove the course this past weekend, and the dirt/gravel section was in horrible condition. I’ve listed an alternate route that we will use if the conditions do not improve greatly in which case Zipp tubulars will be perfect. I’ll review the course the morning of the race and make a decision then on which route we will use. IF it appears the original course is in good condition to hold a race on, you may what a slightly wider tire on heavier rims, but at this point, it is looking like we will be using the back-up route.

What is the direction the race goes. I assume clockwise to avoid let turns across traffic?

if the gravel road is part of the course is it still suitable for a pure road bike. dumb question I know but ‘gravel road’ could cover a lot of possibilities.

When the gravel road is in good condition, it is definitely suitable for a road bike. At this point, I am up to 98% sure we will be using the alternate route that bypasses the gravel section.

Aww nuts. At 3% max climb pitch, the gravel road was pretty much all that seemed interesting about this race. . . well that and it’s the first race of the season!
